A local chain of Japanese and Thai Spoon and Fork, Etobicoke opened nearby about a year or so ago. We tried to get in few times for lunch but there was always a wait. Then a couple of months ago we had a Girls Night Out there and I was quite impressed with the food, so one day a couple of weeks ago I suggested that we try it for lunch again. Although it was quite busy with the business set, we were able to get a nice quiet table.
The restaurant has a contemporary Asian feel with good lighting (although a little bright at night). The tables are well spaced out and although it’s noisy you can still have a decent conversation and not have to yell over the noise. Our waiter was excellent, he knew the food very well and spoke with enthusiasm about it (always a great sign). JT and I ordered the Sushi & Maki which has 5 kinds of Sushi: Salmon, White Tuna, Kani, Shrimp and Tamago and 8 Spicy California Roll ($12) it comes with a small salad (iceberg lettuce and a few tomatoes) and Miso soup which makes for a filling and delicious meal.
I would definitely go back, but beware, they push the ‘all you can eat’ menus so you have to ask for ‘a la carte’ and the ‘a la carte’ is quite different during the weekends than on week days.
Overall rating of Spoon & Fork, Queensway (in my opinion): Decor 4/5, service 4/5, food 4/5, Value 4/5, Noise: 2.5/5 (1 being very noisy, and 5 being very quiet).
Disclaimer: We purchased our meals for full price and my opinions just that, my opinions.

I had sushi for lunch today! I have been to a place that had an all you can eat sushi bar and it was weird. I’ve never been back…something about “sushi” and “all you can eat” definitely doesn’t go together! Plus I’m not an “all you can eat” kind of gal, anyway. You had a beautiful plate of sushi there!

Hi Betsy, you’re absolutely right, all you can eat and sushi are not my cup of tea either. Funny though, there were a lot of people having that menu, I think we were the only one’s ordering only one plate!

I’m not so fond of all you can eat places either… the sushi looks good though!

It sounds like a nice restaurant at least for lunch. Sushi are also a good test of freshness of the restaurant’s dishes. I think I’d be afraid of all you can eat option (too tempting!).

I’m not an all you can eat person myself. I’d rather have a little bit of something very good than a lot of average food. 🙂

I think I’d go for the a la carte but hubby would be tempted by the all you can eat! 😀

Hi Lorraine, the strange thing about that place is that the entire table has to go for the all you can eat, you can’t do one person a la carte and one all you can eat. I guess they have no way of monitoring who eats what.

I would definitely enjoy a dinner here, Eva, and would have loved the sushi plate you ordered. As you undoubtedly know, sushi can be quite expensive and that plate was certainly a bargain. Sounds to me like it’s part of a very successful chain. My favorite sushi restaurant is about a half-mile away. Yes, I’m a frequent guest. 🙂

Great combo. I too prefer the a la carte menu.
Good food, good service and good value, no wonder the place is busy.

It’s a good lunch place for sure, they have several restaurants in the city but mostly in the west end.

I love the assortment of 5 different pieces of nigiri. The sushi restaurant that I used to go to has eliminated tuna from their assortment. These days you get to select from a combination of salmon, white tuna, red snapper and mackerel and one of 3 different rolls, miso soup and a small salad with sesame and ginger dressing. Usually it’s 2 salmon and whatever they feel like giving you. I always say NO mackerel as I dislike it. The place closed down recently. I’m not surprised
I much prefer the all you can eat places where you order by chits and where they make the rolls, nigiri, tempura etc to your order and the hot things are piping hot. 🙂

I totally agree, although I do believe that this restaurant makes the sushi to order, their sushi kitchen is in plain view and there were at least 5 sushi chefs at the helm. I’m not sure about the other foods from the menu, but the sushi was surely fresh.
It’s really too bad that your go to place closed down, but it really isn’t surprising since they’ve cheapened the menu and likely not the prices.

That does sound like a well-rounded, delicious meal. Sushi is one of those things that can go either way, when it’s fresh and done right, outstanding — sounds like this spot covers off nicely. Depending on how often they rotate their buffet, that may or may not be a good/economical option. Nothing worse than sushi that’s been lying around for too long. Good to know about them; thanks!

Hi Kelly, the sushi is made to order, their sushi kitchen is in plain view and there were at least five sushi chefs working when I walked by. But your are indeed correct, sushi lying around is never a good thing, that’s why I wonder how the Health Department can allow those sushi take away boxes in the grocery stores, I’m sure they are not ‘rotated’ as you mentioned.

I am usually shy away from the buffet…too much food and you usually end up eating more than you need.. the salmon sushi looks very good.

I would definitely go for the a la carte menu. You always seem to end up with the better deal as the food is cooked fresh and is always better presented. Sounds like you found a great place for lunch with the girls xx

I’m not an all you can eat, step up to the trough person either. It’s never the best food and I want something cooked for me so it’s hot and tasty. That sushi plate is beautiful!
