I know, my super bowl menu listed Honey Garlic Chicken Wings, but while I was grazing my reading list of blogs, I saw that Kay over at Pure Complex recently made Grilled Maple Mustard Chicken Wings and I just knew I had to revise my Honey Garlic CW to Maple Garlic Chicken Wings – yet another tip of the hat to the New England Patriots! Unfortunately, my photos just did not turn out well, so I trashed them. You’ll have to use your imagination on how yummy they were.
Maple Garlic Chicken Wings
Ingredients:
- whole mess of wings (I like them separated so they bake more evenly)
- 1/4 cup maple syrup
- 4-5 cloves garlic, finely minced
- salt and pepper to taste
- non-fat cooking spray
Directions:
- Dry off the wings and add to a zip lock bag.
- Mix all of the remaining ingredients and pour into the bag and close. Rub this mixture into the wings — you can leave in the fridge over night, if you wish.
- Pre heat oven to 200° C / 400° F
- Line a large baking sheet with parchment (will save a lot of time cleaning up). Spray a bit with the non-stick spray.
- Pour wings onto the sheet and bake for about 45 minutes to 1 hour, turning once when the fist side has a nice golden colour to it.
- Enjoy with Blue Cheese dipping sauce.

Well, I have no visual frame of reference, but they sound delicious Eva – maple syrup and chicken… what a delicious combination. I’ve never tried it. Maple syrup is quite pricey here, but sometimes they have good deals. I’ll have to remember this for next time!

My favorite part of the chicken are the chicken wings and baked with maple syrup sounds finger-licking delicious! Pure maple syrup is VERY EXPENSIVE over here! :o( Have a lovely day, Eva!

I remember reading that so many chicken wings were eaten for the Superbowl-and as a chicken wing lover that would really interest me in the superbowl! 😀

It is quite interesting how many wings are consumed during Super Bowl, Lorraine. It’s definitely a treat for us from a healthy eating perspective and cost. I was telling Charlie that a a kilo is about $11 and that’s not bad!

I can’t believe chicken wings are expensive! They are about $2/kg here and the organic ones aren’t even that much more. Lamb shanks used to be cheap and something my mother would feed to the dogs. Now because they are trendy they are priced like a luxury item.

We paid about $11/kg for wings this past week. And these were cheap; but they were not as plump as your wings, Charlie. By the time the fat rendered out of them, they were scrawny little things (hence the lack of photos). Lamb is also ridiculously expensive here, I’ve always wanted to make those gorgeous lamb pop sickles (frenched bone with a light minty dipping sauce) but they too are crazy expensive. Sigh, grass is always greener!

Metro has drumsticks and thighs for $4.38 kg so I’m buying some to make tandoori chicken instead. 🙂

I think I’ll cook the wings first to allow the skin to crisp up and then perhaps the last few minutes to pour the gooey sauce over them for a sticky treat.

Everyone’s blogging about chicken wings this week. 🙂 I love them but they’re so expensive I don’t bother buying them. Even breasts (skin on, bone in) are the same price on a good sale.

I know what you mean, Maraia, it is a rather silly purchase considering you toss the majority of the weight in the trash (bones). We splurge once in a while, not to mention they are so unhealthy we don’t want to overdo it.

We have home made maple syrup, and it’s the dark kind, Greg. I would imagine either would work.

I really do need to try these. They’d nicely complement a dish of the hotly spiced buffalo wings. Like your wings here, I’ve quit deep frying them and bake them all now. Let face it. There will never be a low-cal chicken wing but we can make them a little more healthier. And then we can eat more. 🙂

Well Eva, as you know, I just love chicken wings. They are just the most perfect snack. I haven’t tried wings marinated in maple syrup but I must give them a go. And if they turn out – I’ll post a photo for you! I hope your super bowl party was a huge success!

I meant to comment about the cost of wings in Canada on your post Charlie, they are certainly not cheap! While they have been a ‘throw away’ ingredient at the butcher, they’ve caught on and have been priced them accordingly! Therefore, we don’t have them that often.
